Abies koreana ‘Kohouts Icebreaker’ is known for it's striking, silvery recurved needles. This evergreen is a slow-growing, compact shrub with a mounding shape. This dwarf conifer makes an excellent choice for smaller spaces or rock garden. 'Kohouts Icebreaker' is sometimes grafted on a standard (see photos) which can accentuate the beauty of this conifer and can make an excellent focal plant. It's amazing silver white needles can add amazing contrast to darker areas of the garden.
Abies koreana ‘Kohouts Icebreaker’ is named after Jörg Kohout of Elstra, Germany. It was discovered as a witch's broom from a specimen of Abies koreana 'Horstmann's Silberlocke' at his nursery.
